Programs

Film Committee, a group of FSU students dedicated to selecting titles for the diverse tastes of the student body, schedules the movies and events. The Film Committee brings every type of movie to the university community, with titles that range from Hollywood blockbusters to foreign, independent, and documentary favorites.

On average, 64,000 guests see a movie in the span of a year. Movies are free for FSU students with a valid FSUCard and only $6 for non-students and $3 for faculty/staff/alumni. The SLC also hosts advanced screenings, co-sponsored events, panel discussions, FSU Film School screenings, and Q & A sessions with special guest filmmakers and artists.

Theater Reservation Policy

Reserved Event

The theater has a limited degree of availability for meeting and event reservations. Reservation requests should be submitted to Campus Event Services.

Co-Sponsored Event

Organizations may request evening screenings as part of the schedule, approved at the discretion of the Film Committee Senior Programmer for Co-Sponsorship Films and Outreach. Resources, financial or otherwise, are typically shared between the two co-sponsoring groups. Legal public performance rights must be secured for every film shown in the Student Life Cinema. Organization representatives (holding a leadership position within their RSO) may complete a film co-sponsorship request in Nole Central to apply for a co-sponsored event. The Film Committee plans the schedule well in advance, so co-sponsorship requests should be submitted several months before the proposed screening date. For additional information, contact the Senior Programmer for Co-Sponsorship Films and Outreach.

Planning a Movie Event

If you are planning a movie event outside of the Student Life Cinema, you need to reserve space with Campus Event Services and complete an event proposal in Nole Central. Campus Event Services staff are available to assist with the event proposal process. Secure the Public Performance Rights of the film you want to show. Remember, simply having the DVD or Blu Ray does NOT give you the legal right to screen the movie in public. Please refer to the Public Performance Rights FAQ for more information.

The rights for many films are available through Swank Motion Pictures. Search their catalog for the film you want to show, then contact FSU's rep Meghan Hunkins at 1-800-876-5577. 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks titles are available through Tracy O'Brien at Criterion Pictures USA. If you have trouble finding the distributor of the film, please email Amie Runk.
